CIGEF Baseline Survey & Food Security Initiative

Establishing data-driven benchmarks to empower rural women, enhance agricultural resilience, and achieve sustainable food security in Wase LGA.

Location Wase LGA, Plateau
Execution Date June 2025
Primary Funder Mission 21
Status Active Phase

Project Overview

In June 2025, ICIN Nigeria completed a comprehensive baseline survey in Wase Local Government Area (LGA) under the multi-year Community Initiatives for Gender Equity and Food Security (CIGEF) project, generously funded by Mission 21 and sponsored by the Friends of ICIN network.

The survey was conducted to establish empirical baseline indicators, data points, and community metrics necessary for accurately measuring the long-term impact of CIGEF interventions across agricultural productivity, gender equity, household income, and food security.

Research Methodology & Approach

To capture accurate contextual insights, ICIN deployed a multi-method research framework:

  • Focus Group Discussions (FGDs): In-depth sessions with women farmers, youth groups, and traditional agricultural workers.
  • Key Informant Interviews (KIIs): Structured interviews with community chiefs, agricultural Extension officers, and market association leaders.
  • Direct Field Observation: Assessing farming practices, soil conditions, water availability, and local food storage infrastructure.

Core Objectives & Impact Goals

Gender Empowerment

Enhancing women's land access rights, financial literacy, and participation in agricultural decision-making bodies across Wase LGA.

Sustainable Food Security

Providing seed inputs, climate-resilient farming techniques, and post-harvest storage training to rural smallholder farmers.
