Project Overview

In April 2025, ICIN Nigeria in joint partnership with the Women and Girls Rescue Development Initiative (WGRDI), with generous funding support from Mission 21, commenced implementation of the 4-year Overcoming Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (OSGBV) project.

The initiative spans four focal communities: Dutse Uku, Tudun Wada, Rahwol Kanan, and Lyoh. It employs participatory Community Theatre led by trained local dramatists to break the silence surrounding gender violence, educate citizens on the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) law, and establish clear, confidential referral pathways to support survivors.

Key Project Components

  • Interactive Community Theatre: Staging drama performances in public spaces to spark dialogue on consent, legal rights, and reporting protocols.
  • VAPP Law Awareness: Sensitizing traditional rulers, youth leaders, and religious figures on legal provisions against SGBV.
  • Survivor Referral Pathways: Strengthening linkages with healthcare clinics, legal aid desks, and psychological counseling centers.
